C&A

This project implements a pragmatic method in design perspectives. Four iterations were completed, focusing on individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as guests in the homes of their friends. Here, I explored how design and the definition of guests change through the lens of pragmatism.

Studying pragmatism helped me realize the different perspectives people have on truth and set its initial ideas within the context of the positive health perspective. I started with the design aim to reduce the symptoms of people with ADHD within the context of being a guest. Throughout the process, my approach to designing for people with mental issues changed: I realized that focusing on difficulties can create a distance to their positive characteristics. Instead, I wanted to highlight the qualities that people with disorders can possess through design and foster an appreciation for individual differences.
