Bedazzle

Promoting the longevity of shared bikes through social innocation

This project aims to unlock the sustainable potential of existing shared bike services through empathic design. Although these services can be environmentally friendly and inclusive, poor treatment of bikes forces companies to fabricate new ones, driving up prices. The project conducts an ethnographic study to explore the reasons for the longevity of products and how to incorporate these to promote longevity in new designs. With this in mind, we incorporated Empathic Design into the Service Design to enhance care for shared bikes, resulting in the Bedazzle concept. “Bedazzle” means to decorate or personalize, and we utilize this concept to create a shared value for a community bike-sharing service.

It provided me with knowledge of integrating multiple social innovation theories and skills in ethnographic design, focusing on understanding the context rather than just the user, which led to further exploration of ethnographic design in the FMP.
